  • Midwifery Care
    • Certified nurse midwives have played a vital role in drastically reducing the maternal and infant death rate in this country. Midwifery Care consists of complete prenatal care including monthly visits and advice on prenatal nutrition and exercise. Midwives specialize in women's health. They are trained in primary care, gynecologic care, pregnancy, labor, birth, and newborns. Midwives specialize in normal pregnancy, labor, and birth. They focus on creating healthy women and families to prevent complications. They are, however, trained to recognize and manage emergencies, should they arise. All midwives work with a collaborating Ob/Gyn to discuss complications and transfer high-risk clients. For more information check our FAQ section or call us.
  • Doula Services
    • Doulas are available to all families, this means that if you decide not to have your baby at The Birth Lounge, your doula will support you at home or in the hospital. The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period(Source DONA International). The Birth Lounge offers Birth Doula services and Postpartum Doula services. Depending on individual needs, a birth doula will meet with the expectant family several times during pregnancy and establish a trusting relationship, answer questions, listen and offer advice and support. She will be present during the labor and birth and offer consistent support. A Post Partum Doula will spend time with the new family in their home for the requested time period, dependend upon the family's needs. She will offer non judgmental support during the postpartum period, assist with newborn care, breastfeeding, family adjustment, meal preparation and light housework.
