Fitness
- Physical fitness has many positive benefits for everyone. It is known to especially have good effects on heart health and can offer other benefits, including strengthened muscles, increased flexibility, and stronger bones, which can help ward off the bone-thinning condition called osteoporosis. Regular activity also promises mental-health benefits, like relieving stress and anxiety. It can help you sleep better and renew your energy.
It is now becoming clearer through many studies that exercise during pregnancy has many benefits to both mother and baby. Recent studies show that regular exercise can prevent or delay the onset of preeclampsia (pregnancy induced high blood pressure) and gestational diabetes. Other studies show that too much weight gain during pregnancy can lead to high birth weight babies who then have a higher risk of being overweight as adults. Other, more directly noticeable benefits of prenatal exercise include:
• Enhanced circulation and flexibility
• Increased energy, strength, stamina, fitness and muscle control
• Reduced discomfort of water retention, tension, stress, depression, and excessive weight gain
• Minimized stretch-marks, varicose veins, and abdominal separation
• Minimized postpartum depression
• Increased relaxation
• Improved calcium absorption
• Improved postpartum recovery
At The Birth Lounge we believe that fitness is very important to anyone at any stage in life. We are also aware that for many women it is a big step to get started. We support any women at any level of fitness and encourage her to take the first step, for herself and her new baby and family. The Birth Lounge will have certified Health and Fitness Educators to help you reach your personal fitness goals. An exclusive Birth Lounge Fitness program will be available for women before conception, during pregnancy and post partum. The program will also take into consideration your personal fitness level when you start and will adjust to your changing body.
Because children are becoming overweight, unhealthy, and unfit, understanding the neurocognitive benefits of an active lifestyle in childhood has important public health and educational implications. Our custom fitness programs at The Birth Lounge will focus on classes and activities that incorporate children at all ages.
The Birth Lounge is currently in the early stages of planning and is seeking grant funding. We plan to open our doors in 2012 and more information on our fitness services will be made available here closer to that exciting time.
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
